Large-scale fabrication of decoupling coatings with promising robustness and superhydrophobicity for antifouling, drag reduction, and organic photodegradation

Abstract It is still a challenge to achieve large-area preparation of robust superhydrophobic surfaces with strong mechanical stability. Here, simple and low-cost method prepare decoupling coatings on aluminum (Al) alloys substrate has been presented. The superhydrophobicity robustness are realized by structuring at two different length scales, nanostructures for microstructures robustness. This prepared coating shows promising superhydrophobicity, water contact angle (CA) ∼158.4° roll off (RA) ∼3°. also exhibits high repellency impacting droplets. Notably, the processes outstanding adhesion strength after tape-peeling cross-cut tests, wear resistantance sandpaper abrasion test. friction coefficient this only ∼0.2. In addition, applied underwater buoyancy enhancement fluid resistance reduction (drag rate ∼30.09%). displays self-cleaning antifouling properties. Moreover, benefitting from photocatalytic property TiO 2 , exploited degrading organics seawater purification. obtained expected apply other solids in marine fields, eco-friendly develops potential practical application.
